Viet Nam LĐ2 work visa and work permit in 2026
LĐ2 is the immigration visa symbol for a foreigner working in Viet Nam who is required to have a work permit. The work permit itself is governed separately by labour law, currently including Decree 219/2025/NĐ-CP, effective 7 August 2025.
Two legal layers
An LĐ2 visa does not replace the permit, and a work permit does not by itself replace the visa or residence document.
Current procedure
The National Public Service Portal states that the employer files the work-permit application within 60 days but not less than 10 days before the expected work start. A complete application is processed within 10 working days; a refusal is notified in writing with reasons.
The permit duration follows the qualifying employment or assignment basis and is capped at two years.
Temporary residence card
Current immigration law allows qualifying LĐ2 holders to receive a temporary residence card with a statutory maximum of two years, subject to passport-validity limits.
