Highly Qualified National Visa in Slovakia — January 2025
Slovakia maintained a national visa for highly qualified third-country nationals under Government Regulation No. 521/2021, as amended, for the January 2025 snapshot.
Eligible groups
The regulation covered defined graduates of Slovak or Czech second-cycle higher education, graduates of listed foreign higher-education or research institutions, and graduates meeting the education rules who would work in occupations listed by the regulation.
Job search or employment
The regulation allowed a national visa for job search for 90 days and, for qualifying employment, for the duration of employment up to one year. The annual cap in the regulation was 3,000 national visas, with the stated exclusion from that count for certain employment visas following the job-search visa.
This route is narrower than a general job-seeker visa for everyone and is distinct from the EU Blue Card and ordinary Employment Temporary Residence.
