Business Temporary Residence in Slovakia — January 2025
Slovakia's temporary residence for the purpose of business is the main residence framework for qualifying self-employed people, active entrepreneurs and company founders.
Legal basis on 2 January 2025
Section 22 of Act No. 404/2011 Coll., in the version effective on 2 January 2025, covered a third-country national who conducts or will conduct business in Slovakia as a natural person, or who acts or will act on behalf of a company or cooperative without being in an employment relationship.
The residence is purpose-specific. Merely owning shares, holding passive investments or visiting Slovakia does not by itself create this residence status.
Freelancer, founder and investor search intent
A freelancer or self-employed applicant who will actually conduct Slovak business can fall within the business-residence framework if the statutory and licensing conditions are satisfied. A startup founder who uses the innovative-project track should also compare the Innovative Startup Founder route.
Slovakia did not publish a separate passive-investor or citizenship-by-investment residence route in the Tier-1 sources used for this January 2025 snapshot.
