Studies and Student Work in Slovenia in 2026
The temporary residence permit for study allows qualifying third-country nationals to live in Slovenia for recognised education, study, exchange or training activity.
The permit is linked to the qualifying study or enrolment basis and must be extended before expiry if studies continue.
Work while studying
A foreign student with study residence may work through the Slovenian student-employment system and may also take employment alongside studies under the applicable labour-market procedure.
For ordinary employment alongside studies, current ESS guidance uses an employer vacancy/labour-market check and an information sheet before the updated residence card reflects the right to work.
Study residence should not be described as an unrestricted general work permit.
