Self-Employment Single Permit in Slovenia in 2026
The self-employment single permit is the residence basis for third-country nationals who will genuinely carry out self-employed activity in Slovenia.
One-year rule
Most third-country nationals may become self-employed only after 1 year of continuous lawful residence in Slovenia. The one-year condition does not apply to a person carrying out an independent professional activity under the statutory exception.
Registering a sole trader or company is not the same as obtaining immigration permission. Business registration, residence status and the right actually to perform self-employed activity must all be valid.
Validity
The permit is issued for a fixed period of no more than 2 years and can be renewed if the statutory requirements remain met.
ESS consent is not required for issuing or extending this specific self-employment single permit.
