Chad immigration in 2026
Chad now operates a government e-Visa system for ordinary visa applications. The Direction of Immigration and Emigration announced that from 11 May 2026 new visa applications must be submitted through evisa.td and that, after 21 May 2026, visas issued outside the platform are invalid for entry, apart from diplomatic and courtesy visas handled by Foreign Affairs.
That digital entry process is only one layer. A foreign worker may also need employment authorization and a visaed employment contract, a person remaining in Chad may need a residence card, and a founder may need RCCM registration plus sector approvals. Those requirements should not be collapsed into one generic “visa.”
Main pathways
- e-Visa entry and extension
- Foreign employment
- Residence card
- Business and investor establishment
- Independent and self-employed activity
- Remote-worker options
e-Visa transition in 2026
The June 2026 official circular cites Decree No. 2299/PR/PM/MSPI/2025 and Joint Order No. 033/PR/PM/MFBEPCI/MSPI/2026. It states a standard e-Visa processing period of 10 working days, an express period of 72 hours, and says an extension is permitted only once for 15- and 30-day visas.
The portal also publishes a visa-exemption list. Eligibility depends on nationality and status, so travelers should check the live official portal rather than assume that a regional or historic exemption still applies.
Work is a separate compliance track
ILO NATLEX continues to identify Law No. 38/PR/96 as Chad's Labour Code. Article 67 requires contracts with foreign workers to be in writing and submitted to the employment authority for visa before work begins, and it requires the employer to obtain prior authorization to hire the foreign worker.
A work contract uploaded in an e-Visa dossier is therefore not proof by itself that labour authorization has been completed.
Residence documentation is distinct
Decree No. 2299/PR/PM/MSPI/2025 governs admission and stay of foreigners and the 2026 circular separately refers to fees for residence cards and entry visas. A visa authorizes entry/stay on its terms; a residence card is a different document for residence status.
Business registration is not immigration status
The Ministry of Commerce says RCCM registration is the first business-registration step for individual traders, companies, economic-interest groups and foreign-company branches. Licences and approvals may also be required. None of those formalities automatically creates a residence-by-investment or “golden visa.”
No dedicated digital-nomad route found
The official sources reviewed on 19 September 2026 do not establish a dedicated Chad digital-nomad or remote-worker visa. A visitor or business visa should not be represented as automatic permission for ongoing remote occupational activity.
