Chad independent and self-employed activity in 2026

The current official sources reviewed do not establish a dedicated national “freelancer visa” or “self-employment visa” for Chad.

A foreign national who wants to operate independently should separate three questions: business authorization, immigration status, and—where the relationship is actually employment—Labour Code compliance.

Business formalities

The Ministry of Commerce says RCCM registration is the first step for a person exercising commercial activity and expressly includes individual traders as well as companies and foreign branches.

The exact structure depends on the activity. Sector-specific approvals can also apply.

Immigration is separate

RCCM registration does not create an immigration exemption for a foreign freelancer or sole trader. A person who needs a visa must use the evisa.td system unless exempt, and a continuing stay may require a residence card.

Employment classification matters

If the work is really performed as an employee for a Chadian employer, the foreign-worker authorization and contract-visa rules in Labour Code Article 67 may apply. Calling an arrangement “freelance” does not override its legal substance.

For genuinely independent activity, current official online sources do not publish one consolidated immigration category that automatically follows from business registration.

No startup-visa inference

The Ministry's references to entrepreneurship programs and the Start-up Act should not be converted into an immigration claim. Economic support policy is different from permission for a foreign national to enter, reside and work.
