Sri Lanka distinguishes visit visas, purpose-specific residence visas, and a newer permanent residence status. The correct route depends on what the person will actually do in Sri Lanka.

Remote work and freelancing

Sri Lanka now has a real Digital Nomad Visa for foreign-source remote employment, freelancing and overseas business activity. It is not permission to work for a Sri Lankan employer. There is no separate generic open local self-employment visa.

Investment

The current Investor Visa publishes USD 100,000 and USD 200,000 thresholds for five- and ten-year outcomes. Golden Paradise and Colombo Port City are separate frameworks and should not be merged into one generic "golden visa."

Legacy schemes

My Dream Home and the Resident Guest Scheme are listed as extension only for existing visa holders. ReloTide does not present them as routes for new applicants.

Permanent residence

Permanent residence is limited to the official qualifying former-Sri-Lankan, descent and family categories. Investment or long temporary residence alone does not automatically create PR.
