Digital Nomad Visa in Sri Lanka in 2026
Sri Lanka's Digital Nomad Visa (DNV) is a residence category for foreign nationals aged 18 or older who work remotely for an employer, clients or a business outside Sri Lanka.
Current eligibility
The Department of Immigration and Emigration requires the main applicant to be engaged in remote employment, freelancing or a business not registered in Sri Lanka that serves clients outside Sri Lanka. The current minimum monthly remittance is USD 2,000 for the main applicant; when the dependent count exceeds two, an additional USD 500 per month for each additional dependent is required.
Duration and fee
The current visa duration is one year, renewable annually. The official guideline lists a fee of USD 500 per year for the main applicant, spouse and each dependent.
Local employment is prohibited
The DNV expressly does not permit local employment in Sri Lanka; income must be earned from foreign sources. It should not be confused with an employment residence visa or a short-stay business visit visa.
