Permanent Residence Permit in Mauritius in 2026

Mauritius's Permanent Residence Permit (PRP) is a separate long-term status. It is not automatic merely because a person has held an Occupation Permit or Residence Permit.

Current five-year criteria

The 2025 consolidated EDB Act publishes category-specific pathways:

  • Investor: at least five years as an Investor Occupation Permit holder and either MUR 15 million annual turnover for five years or MUR 75 million aggregate turnover over the consecutive five-year period.
  • Professional: at least five years under a Professional Occupation Permit or qualifying Work Permit and a MUR 400,000 monthly basic salary for five consecutive years.
  • Self-employed: at least five years as a Self-Employed Occupation Permit holder and either MUR 3 million annual business income for five years or MUR 15 million aggregate turnover over those five years.
  • Retired non-citizen: at least five years under the retired Residence Permit and transfers totalling at least USD 200,000 over the consecutive five-year period.

These are qualifying criteria, not a guarantee of grant.
