Salaried Worker Residence Permit in Luxembourg — January 2025 snapshot

Luxembourg's salaried worker route is the standard long-stay immigration category for a third-country national taking local employment for more than 3 months.

January 2025 position

Official Ministry of Home Affairs guidance in force by January 2025 required the immigration process to begin before entry, with a temporary authorisation to stay and, where required, a long-stay visa before the residence-permit stage in Luxembourg.

The employer normally has to complete the Luxembourg labour-market step with ADEM before the worker's immigration application, unless an exemption applies. The immigration permission is therefore tied to genuine Luxembourg employment rather than to a general wish to live in Luxembourg while working remotely for an overseas company.

Not a digital-nomad permit

This category is for salaried employment that fits Luxembourg's work-authorisation framework. It should not be marketed as an open remote-work or digital-nomad visa.
