Study and Graduate Options in South Africa in 2026
South Africa provides temporary-residence visas for qualifying international study under the Immigration Act and Regulations.
Study status
A study visa is purpose-specific. Students must maintain the educational basis of their status and comply with any conditions attached to the visa.
Study status should not be described as a general work permit or entrepreneur visa.
Graduate planning
South Africa's 2026 final revised White Paper proposes a future skilled-worker model intended to make it easier for some international graduates to remain and contribute their skills.
That proposal is not itself a current graduate work visa. Graduates must use whatever current visa category they actually qualify for—such as an appropriate work visa, business route or other lawful status—until new legislation is enacted.
Always distinguish current Immigration Act rules from proposed future migration policy.
