Business Visa in South Africa in 2026

The South African Business Visa is the current immigration route for a foreigner establishing or investing in a South African business under the existing Immigration Act and Regulations.

Capital and business evidence

Current South African government guidance states that a minimum of R5 million must be invested into South Africa for the ordinary Business Visa capital requirement, unless a qualifying reduction or waiver applies under the national-interest framework. Applicants must document the qualifying cash/capital contribution through the prescribed accounting evidence.

Employment and registrations

Current regulations require an undertaking that at least 60% of the total staff complement employed in the business will be South African citizens or permanent residents, together with required registrations such as SARS, UIF, the Compensation Fund and CIPC where legally required.

A recommendation from the dtic on business feasibility and contribution to the national interest is also part of the regulatory framework. the dtic currently operates an online Visa Recommendation System for first applications, extensions and permanent-residence recommendations.

Current law vs proposed reform

The March 2026 final revised White Paper proposes replacing the Business Visa with an Investment Visa in future legislation. That is a policy proposal, not a replacement of the current Business Visa today.
