Family and Dependant Residence in Panama in 2026
Panama provides family and dependant residence categories for qualifying relatives of eligible sponsors. Panama Digital's National Migration Service procedure for dependants of permanent residents addresses spouses, qualifying minor children, specified dependent parents and persons with disabilities. Qualifying adult dependent children may be eligible up to age 25 when they are regularly studying and meet the financial-dependence conditions.
Verify the principal sponsor’s status
A qualifying relationship does not alone establish eligibility: check the sponsor's precise residence category, status validity and required financial support. A family application usually needs authenticated proof of relationship, a declaration of responsibility, identification, evidence of the sponsor’s residence, and applicable maintenance documentation. Documents issued abroad may require apostille or legalization and authorized Spanish translation.
Dependants do not automatically receive work rights
A dependant residence card must not be treated as a blanket authorization to accept local employment. MITRADEL work-permit eligibility is a separate question depending on the dependant's category and intended work. Nor does the dependent's immigration status override professions reserved by law for Panamanian nationals.
Match the principal route first
A spouse or child of an investor should verify the actual sponsor basis before filing: Friendly Nations residence, Qualified Investor residence and macroenterprise founder residence have different eligibility, documents, investment and dependant requirements. A temporary remote-worker short-stay visa is not itself permanent-resident sponsorship.
