White Card Digital Nomad in Hungary in 2026
Hungary's White Card is the residence route commonly called the Hungarian digital nomad visa.
Remote-work model
The route is for third-country nationals who work remotely from Hungary for an employer outside Hungary, or who own a profitable business outside Hungary and perform/manage that work remotely.
A White Card holder must not work for or on behalf of a Hungarian employer and must not hold shares in a Hungarian company.
Income requirement
OIF currently requires legal net monthly income of at least EUR 3,000 for the 6 months before entry, and the applicant must continue to have at least that income throughout the Hungarian stay.
Validity
The White Card is valid for up to 1 year and may be extended once for another year.
Settlement and family limits
Ordinary family reunification is not available to White Card holders, apart from the narrow statutory birth exception, and a White Card holder may not obtain a national residence card. The White Card therefore should not be described as a direct permanent-residence pathway.
