EU Blue Card in Hungary in 2026
The Hungarian EU Blue Card is a residence and work route for employment requiring a high level of professional qualification.
2026 salary thresholds
OIF states that the 2026 minimum monthly remuneration is HUF 1,001,048. For the specified healthcare occupations listed in the official guidance, the 2026 threshold is HUF 800,838.
Applicants must also meet the qualification and employment requirements of the Blue Card route. Salary alone does not create eligibility.
Validity and employment
The permit can be valid for up to 4 years and may be extended for up to 4 years at a time for the same purpose.
During the first 1 year from issuance, the holder may work only in the approved employment relationship requiring a high level of qualification. Employer/job changes can trigger a new extension procedure under current Hungarian rules.
For family and long-term residence, use the separate rules rather than assuming the restrictions that apply to the ordinary employment permit also apply to the Blue Card.
