Family and Dependant Temporary Residence in Ecuador in 2026
Ecuador's amparo temporary-residence category allows qualifying children, spouses and legally recognized de facto partners to reside under the sponsorship of a foreign temporary-residence holder.
Family link and duration
The relationship must be documented under the applicable civil-status rules, with apostille/legalization and translation where required. The official procedure states that the dependant's residence validity follows the validity of the sponsoring temporary resident and may be renewed in line with the sponsor's renewal.
For each adult child sponsored, the official page requires the sponsor to show USD 250 in additional monthly income.
Work is a separate question
Family residence should not be marketed as automatic proof of unrestricted professional practice. A dependant who intends to work, run a business or exercise a regulated profession should verify the activity rights and any separate labor, professional, tax or licensing steps applicable to that activity.
