Andean Community Residence in Ecuador in 2026

Ecuador implements the Estatuto Migratorio Andino (Decision 878) for nationals of the Andean Community. Ecuador's official procedure states that temporary Andean residence lasts two years and permits multiple entries.

Who can use it

The Community of Andean Nations currently comprises Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. In Ecuador, the route is relevant to eligible nationals of the other member states who wish to establish residence.

Work and self-employment rights

The Andean Community explains that holders of temporary or permanent Andean residence may access activity on their own account or as employees under the same conditions as nationals of the receiving country, subject to local law. This makes the route especially important for eligible founders, independent professionals and employees.

The right to undertake activity does not erase Ecuador's separate company, tax, municipal or regulated-profession requirements.

Permanent Andean residence

The Andean framework also provides a permanent-residence stage. Ecuador's procedure and the CAN statute should be checked before filing, including the timing window, lawful-means evidence and continuity rules then in force.
