Czechia immigration and residence options in 2026

Employment routes
The Employee Card is the principal combined employment/residence route for many third-country nationals and is issued for no more than two years at a time. The EU Blue Card serves highly qualified employment and currently uses a salary formula of at least 1.5 times the average gross salary.
Some nationalities have free access to the Czech labour market, but that does not itself create residence rights.
Remote work, business and investment
The Digital Nomad Programme is a government migration programme rather than a standalone visa. It channels eligible remote employees and freelancers into existing Czech long-term visa categories.
Ordinary founders and self-employed people should review business and self-employment. The separate investment residence route is a high-threshold category tied to CZK 75 million and job creation.
Study, graduates and researchers
Qualifying students have free labour-market access while holding the appropriate study status. Czech graduates and qualifying researchers can use a non-extendable nine-month job-search/start-business permit.
Family and settlement
The family reunification category can give free labour-market access, while other family-purpose routes may not. Ordinary permanent residence generally requires five years of continuous qualifying temporary residence.
