Permanent Residence in Czechia in 2026
The ordinary permanent-residence route for third-country nationals generally requires at least 5 years of continuous qualifying temporary residence in Czechia.
Permanent-residence status itself is not time-limited. The biometric permit document is generally issued for 10 years, or 5 years for foreign nationals under 15, and can be renewed.
Permanent residents have free access to the labour market and, subject to the applicable rules, access to public medical insurance and social-welfare systems.
Not every type of stay counts toward the five-year period in the same way. Applicants should review the official continuous-residence rules, including special counting rules for some Blue Card and study periods.
