Studies and Student Work in Czechia in 2026
A Czech long-term residence permit for studies covers qualifying study activities, most commonly an accredited university programme.
The permit can generally be valid for up to 1 year, and in cases defined by law up to 2 years.
Students who are staying for qualifying studies have free access to the Czech labour market, meaning they do not need an additional work permit simply because they are students in that qualifying category. They still need valid residence status and must continue satisfying the purpose of stay.
Different education formats can be treated differently under immigration law, so applicants should confirm that their programme falls within the statutory definition of studies.
