Burkina Faso Digital Nomad and Remote Work Rules in 2026

Burkina Faso does not publish a dedicated digital-nomad or remote-worker visa in the current official visa categories.

The official system instead distinguishes short-stay visas, long-stay visas/residence documentation and separate authorization to work.

Why a short-stay visa is not a remote-work permit

Visa Burkina says short-stay visas can cover tourism, business or family visits and cannot exceed 90 days.

It also states directly that the short-stay visa does not give its holder the right to work in Burkina Faso without prior authorization from the minister responsible for labour.

The official source does not publish an exemption simply because the employer or clients are outside Burkina Faso.

What about a business visa?

A business visa supports a business purpose, but it is not automatically a work permit.

Meetings, negotiations and business-visitor activity should not be conflated with habitually performing a job from Burkina Faso.

What about a long-stay visa?

The official long-stay category covers stays of more than 90 days and requires proof of the reason for stay, medical evidence, support or sufficient income, and health insurance.

But a long-stay visa still needs a legitimate published purpose. The official catalogue does not list “digital nomad” as its own purpose.

Foreign employer or clients

Current official sources reviewed for this guide do not publish a blanket rule that foreign-source income, foreign clients or a foreign employment contract automatically removes the need to address Burkina Faso's labour rules.

The 2026 Labour Code strengthened controls for hiring non-national non-resident workers, including work permits and contract validation. A remote worker should obtain current classification from the migration and labour authorities before assuming an exemption.

Can I use a company instead?

Creating a company is a separate commercial process.

If the remote professional establishes a local business, the business/entrepreneur guide explains foreign-trader authorization and CEFORE registration. Those steps do not automatically grant immigration or work permission.

Practical planning checklist

Before relocating for ongoing remote work, confirm:

  • the lawful entry/stay category;
  • whether the intended duration requires long-stay/residence documentation;
  • whether the activity needs labour authorization;
  • whether local business registration is necessary; and
  • separate tax/social-security consequences.
