Eight-Year Long-Term Residence in Türkiye in 2026

The ordinary route to long-term residence generally requires eight years of qualifying continuous lawful residence and additional statutory conditions. It is not interchangeable with a short-term business residence card, permanent work authorization, the Turquoise Card or citizenship.

How residence time and eligibility work

The official Migration Management guidance states that half of qualifying student residence and the full qualifying period of other residence permits count toward its eight-year calculation, subject to the law and applicable exclusions. The applicant generally must show no government social assistance in the past three years, sufficient stable means, valid insurance and compliance with public order/security requirements. Check absence and status-change rules carefully: eight calendar years of tourist entry stamps are not necessarily eight qualifying years.

Indefinite residence and separate work rules

Approved long-term residence is issued indefinitely, subject to possible cancellation under published absence and security rules. The official work-permit guide describes eligibility for a permanent work-permit application based on long-term residence or eight years' lawful work-permit history but explicitly notes that meeting prerequisites does not guarantee approval. Do not promise citizenship, unrestricted public office or voting rights from a residence card.

Maintain the legal basis of any business-owner work permit and family residence while calculating the settlement timeline.
