Japan J-Find in 2026

J-Find is Japan's Future Creation Individual Designated Activities status for eligible graduates of highly ranked overseas universities who want to search for work or prepare to start a business in Japan.

University ranking requirement

The applicant must have graduated from a university that ranks in the top 100 in at least two of three specified global rankings:

  • QS World University Rankings;
  • Times Higher Education World University Rankings; and
  • Academic Ranking of World Universities.

ISA publishes a reference list, but applicants should still check the current rankings used for the application period.

Graduation must be recent

The qualifying degree or professional degree must have been awarded within the five years before the relevant application.

JPY 200,000 initial living funds

The applicant must possess at least JPY 200,000 for living expenses at the beginning of the stay.

Up to two years

J-Find can allow residence for job-hunting or startup-preparation activity for up to two years, subject to the structure of the grants and renewals under the official program.

JETRO also notes that qualifying supplemental employment can be permitted to support the applicant while carrying out the main J-Find activity.

Family

A qualifying spouse or child can accompany the J-Find holder under the related Designated Activities status. Separate permission is required for family members who want to work.

J-Find is not the Digital Nomad route

J-Find is based on recent graduation from a qualifying top university and is aimed at job search or business preparation. It is not a general remote-worker visa.

Someone who secures qualifying Japanese employment may later need to change to a work status such as Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services. A founder may instead work toward Business Manager or compare the Startup Visa.
