Study Visa / Entry Permit in Hong Kong in 2026

Non-local students admitted to eligible Hong Kong programmes generally need a study visa or entry permit unless a specific exception applies.

Programme and sponsorship

Eligibility depends on the programme, institution, applicant category and current immigration rules. The application normally requires an admission offer and institutional sponsorship or supporting documentation.

Work while studying

Student status is not an unrestricted work visa. Employment and internship permissions depend on the student's programme and current conditions of stay.

Dependants and graduation

Students in qualifying full-time undergraduate or postgraduate programmes may be able to sponsor a spouse or recognised partner and unmarried dependent children under 18. Dependants of students are generally not allowed to work unless prior Immigration Department permission is obtained.

Qualifying graduates should review IANG. Other graduates may need a professional-employment route before taking work.
