Rentista residence
DGME lists Residencia Temporal Rentista as a distinct temporary-residence category.
The official guidance requires the applicant to document the source and amount of income and declare that they will not perform remunerated activity in the country, subject to limited statutory exceptions for specialized public-sector or teaching work.
Not a remote-work visa
Because the rentista category restricts remunerated work, it should not be marketed as a digital-nomad route. Remote workers who will actively earn from work should assess the appropriate work or independent-worker framework instead.
See the El Salvador hub, work-authorized residence, Latin America, methodology, and legal disclaimer.
