Independent worker and self-employed residence

DGME's migrant-worker guidance expressly includes trabajadores independientes. For extensions, independent workers are asked to document the activity they carry out, their address and business location, the start date of activities, supporting documentation, and an active company registration where they are a merchant.

Freelancers and consultants

The reviewed official framework does not create a separate freelancer visa. Freelancers and consultants carrying on economic activity in El Salvador should assess the independent-worker rules rather than relying on a tourism label.

Founders and entrepreneurs

El Salvador also lists separate temporary categories for individual merchants, shareholders, business people and investors. A founder's best category depends on whether the person is working independently, holding shares, operating as an individual merchant, or investing.
