Dominica residence permit
Dominica publishes a general Residence Permit process for non-nationals. Residence status is separate from the right to carry out local work.
Lawful status while applying
For a first application, the government says the applicant must first present a passport with at least six months' validity. A person who remains in visitor status must obtain an Extension of Stay from Immigration and keep that extension current while the residence application is being processed.
Supporting documents
The published checklist includes completed application and medical forms, a medical certificate, testimonials, financial evidence, a recent police record, evidence of a return ticket or deposit covering return travel, passport photos, the valid passport, proof of the application-fee payment, a local responsibility letter, marriage certificate where applicable, and a cover letter requesting the permit.
The government page publishes different application fees for CARICOM and non-CARICOM nationals.
Work and business activity
A residence permit should not be treated as a substitute for any work authorization required under Dominica's immigration legislation. Someone who will work locally, freelance, consult, or operate a business should separately assess the work-permit rules.
Long-term pathway
The government maintains a separate permanent-residence process for applicants who have built a longer record of residence or employment in Dominica.
