Cyprus Company of Foreign Interests employment in 2026
Cyprus has a streamlined employment framework for qualifying Companies of Foreign Interests. The employer's registration and the worker's immigration permission are separate steps.
A company being incorporated in Cyprus does not by itself make it eligible for this strategy, and a shareholder or director does not gain residence automatically.
Employer registration comes first
Businesses not already in the official register must first satisfy the current eligibility criteria and obtain confirmation through the competent business-support process. That company-level approval is then used for immigration/employment applications.
The Migration Department still requires the individual third-country national to hold the appropriate temporary residence and employment permit.
Highly paid employment
For highly paid third-country staff, the current strategy generally requires:
- minimum gross monthly salary of €2,500;
- relevant academic qualifications or at least two years of relevant experience for the position; and
- an employment contract of at least two years.
Even where the residence permit application itself is for one year, the published policy requires a two-year employment contract with corresponding stamp duties.
Supportive-level employment
Supportive-level positions are treated differently. The official policy states that a labour market test and a contract sealed by the Department of Labour are necessary.
Do not generalise the highly paid employee rules to every position in a Foreign Interest Company.
No automatic immigration from company ownership
Company registration, share ownership, directorship, employment and residence are distinct. A founder who wants to operate a Cyprus business should also compare the Startup Visa and, where relevant, investor permanent residence.
Family and long-term planning
Family treatment depends on the employee's permit category and the applicable family-reunification rules. Long-term residence is a separate status with its own five-year residence calculation and exclusions.
