Transitory-Stay Work Authorization in Chile in 2026
A person holding Permanencia Transitoria generally may not perform remunerated activities in Chile. SERMIG publishes a narrow exception allowing an application for work authorization for specific and sporadic activities.
Examples of qualifying activity
SERMIG lists examples including public performers and entertainment personnel, athletes, lecturers, advisers and expert technicians, plus certain foreign residents of border areas when a bilateral agreement provides for it.
The authorization can cover remuneration or economic benefit received in Chile or abroad when the specific and sporadic activity falls within the official framework.
Not a remote-work or residence category
This authorization should not be described as a digital-nomad visa or as a substitute for temporary residence. A professional who intends to provide ongoing services in Chile should compare Remunerated Activities Residence.
SERMIG's September 2026 fee page states that the work authorization charge is 150% of the value of the temporary residence for remunerated activities, according to nationality, subject to statutory exemptions.
