International Agreements Temporary Residence in Chile in 2026
Chile has a temporary-residence subcategory for people covered by international agreements in force. Eligibility, requirements and effects depend on the applicable treaty.
Business-person provisions
SERMIG states that several Chilean free-trade agreements include temporary-entry chapters under which eligible business persons can request a residence permit. The current official list identifies agreements involving Australia, Brazil, Canada, Central America, Colombia, South Korea, the United States, Mexico and Peru.
This is not one universal visa with identical conditions for every nationality. The applicant must fit the treaty that applies to their nationality or residence and the specific business-person category established by that agreement.
Application location
SERMIG says the application is made from outside Chile through its digital portal. General document rules can include a passport valid for at least one year, recent criminal-record documentation and apostille/legalization or translation requirements, except where the treaty itself changes those requirements.
