Investor and Related Personnel Residence in Chile in 2026

Chile's investor temporary-residence subcategory is not a generic residence-by-company-formation program. SERMIG targets defined investors and related personnel.

USD 500,000 investor threshold

SERMIG states that legal representatives and people carrying out managerial or senior-management functions in a foreign company may apply when they seek to invest in Chile USD 500,000 or more, or the equivalent in another currency, and the investment is intended for the production of goods or services.

The applicant must obtain a Carta de Patrocinio from InvestChile and provide documentation describing the investment, at least its purpose, amount and the applicant's functions.

Related personnel

The same subcategory can also cover certain senior managers, executives and specialist technical personnel hired as employees or service providers by a Chile-established company whose capital or assets are controlled directly or indirectly by a qualifying foreign investor. SERMIG specifies a foreign investor holding at least 10% of voting rights or the equivalent participation in capital or assets, depending on the entity form.

Company ownership is not enough

Being a shareholder, founder or director of a Chilean company does not by itself prove eligibility. The immigration route has its own statutory and administrative requirements, including the InvestChile sponsorship process for the investor case.

A founder who does not meet this category should compare Remunerated Activities Residence, International Agreements Residence, and Multiple-Entry Business Residence.

For settlement, some investors may later qualify for Permanent Residence, subject to the residence-duration and other rules then in force.
