Chile's temporary-residence system includes a subcategory for retirees and rentistas.

Retirees

A retiree must show a pension obtained under the rules of the country of residence and sufficient to meet at least the applicant's basic needs during the stay in Chile, according to the indicators used by the Ministry of Social Development and Family.

Rentistas

A rentista must have regular income derived from real estate or financial assets. The income must be received regularly and be sufficient to cover at least the applicant's basic needs during residence in Chile.

The official route therefore focuses on pension or asset-derived income. It should not be marketed as a digital-nomad category for active employment or client work.

Application and dependants

SERMIG states that this application is made from outside Chile. Dependants may qualify under the temporary-residence dependent rules where the statutory relationship conditions are met.
