Central African Republic foreign employment in 2026
A foreign salaried worker should treat employment authorization and immigration status as separate requirements.
Under Article 100 of Labour Code No. 09.004, a non-Central African worker must hold an employment contract or hiring letter visaed by the minister responsible for employment on the prescribed form. The Code says recruitment conditions and the fee for this contract-visa form are set by ministerial order.
Article 101 then adds a second rule: both the employer recruiting a foreigner and the expatriate worker must comply with the rules governing the admission and stay of foreigners in the Central African Republic.
A contract visa is not an entry visa
The French word visa appears in the Labour Code for the official endorsement of an employment contract. That is not the same thing as the consular visa placed in a travel document.
A typical compliance map therefore has at least two tracks:
- the employment relationship and required labour approval; and
- the foreign national's lawful entry and stay.
For a continuing stay, residence documentation may create another step.
Long-stay visa evidence
The current Embassy long-stay form describes a 45–90 day visa and expressly lists work as one possible purpose of travel. It does not say that checking "work" replaces Labour Code Article 100.
See the long-stay visa guide.
Current Labour Code caveat
The operative source used here is Law No. 09.004 of 29 January 2009. A labour-law revision has been under consideration, and public material reported parliamentary activity around a revised code in 2025. Current authoritative material reviewed for this update did not establish a promulgated replacement that supersedes the 2009 code.
ReloTide therefore does not substitute unofficial uploads of a supposed "2025 Labour Code" for the published legal text. Employers should verify whether a newer promulgated code or implementing decree has taken effect before filing.
Longer residence
The employment contract does not itself create a residence card. Official fiscal legislation recognizes temporary, ordinary and privileged residence-card categories, but detailed public eligibility criteria are not comprehensively published online.
See residence cards.
Employer due diligence
Before onboarding a foreign worker, verify the current competent employment authority, the prescribed contract form, any recruitment restrictions or fees, the correct consular entry route, and the resident-document process for the intended duration.
