Central African Republic residence cards in 2026
Current official Finance material confirms that the Central African Republic issues residence cards to foreign nationals and identifies three documentary categories:
- temporary resident — maximum validity one year;
- ordinary resident — maximum validity one year; and
- privileged resident — maximum validity two years.
The same compilation lists stamp duties for those categories. Fees can change through later legislation or regulation, so they should be reconfirmed before filing.
What the official source does not establish
The published tax-law compilation is strong evidence that the card categories exist and have stated maximum validity. It is not a complete immigration eligibility manual.
The material reviewed for this update does not comprehensively specify, for every nationality and factual situation:
- the qualifying period for each category;
- whether a particular status automatically renews;
- whether one category automatically converts into another;
- a general permanent-residence pathway; or
- a universal document checklist administered the same way in every case.
ReloTide therefore does not fill those gaps with rules copied from commercial sites.
Residence card versus visa
The current Embassy long-stay form calls a 45–90 day visa "long stay." A residence card is a different document used for resident status.
Someone planning to stay beyond the visa period should verify the resident-document procedure with the competent Central African authority rather than assume the entry visa simply extends itself.
Residence card versus work permission
A residence card should also not be treated as proof that a foreign national has satisfied employment law. Article 100 of the Labour Code separately addresses the employment contract or hiring letter for non-Central African workers.
See foreign employment.
Business and investor cases
The Investment Charter protects regularly established investors and refers to entry, stay and administrative documents, but this does not transform a residence card into an automatic investment visa. Business formalization and immigration documentation remain separate.
See business and investor establishment.
Before filing
Ask the competent authority for the currently applicable category, form, supporting documents, stamp duty, filing location and renewal procedure. If a consular post is involved, confirm whether its jurisdiction covers your place of residence.
