Sweden remote work and digital-nomad options in 2026
The Swedish Migration Agency's current route catalogue does not publish a dedicated "digital nomad visa" or general remote-worker residence permit.
For citizens outside the EU/EEA, a Schengen visit or visa-free stay should not be treated as an automatic right to carry out ordinary employment from Sweden. The immigration status should match the actual activity: employee work, self-employment, study, family residence or another lawful basis.
EU/EEA citizens have a different position and can work or run a business under free-movement rules when they meet the right-of-residence conditions.
Tax residence, population registration, employer payroll obligations and social-security coverage are separate questions from immigration permission.
