Saint Lucia CSME Skills and free movement

Saint Lucia participates in the CARICOM Single Market and Economy. The Government's CSME guidance explains that a qualifying CARICOM national may seek work and engage in gainful employment in a participating Member State without obtaining a work permit.

Who can qualify

The current Saint Lucia CSME information page lists approved free-movement categories including university graduates, artistes, musicians, media workers and sportspersons. Applicants should verify the category rules in force when applying because CSME implementation can evolve across Member States.

A CSME Skills Certificate is the key documentary route used to evidence qualification. The Government service page currently asks for items including the application form, passport photographs, passport, academic evidence where applicable, birth certificate, police certificates and marriage/dependant records.

Dependants

Official CSME guidance states that spouses and immediate dependent family members may move with the skills-certificate holder. Their presence does not convert CSME free movement into permanent residence or citizenship.

What the route does not do

The CSME page expressly distinguishes free movement of skills from permanent residency and citizenship. A person who wants permanent-resident status must use Saint Lucia's domestic residence process.

CARICOM nationals who do not qualify under an approved free-movement category may still need the general work permit. Entrepreneurs should also compare the CSME Right of Establishment.
