Ireland remote work and visitor options in 2026

Ireland does not publish a dedicated national digital-nomad residence visa.

Search phrases such as “Ireland digital nomad visa” describe user intent, not an official immigration route.

Visitor permission is not residence permission

A short-stay visitor permission is temporary. It cannot be treated as an unrestricted right to live and work in Ireland.

For ordinary tourism or family visits, government guidance states that the visit route does not allow paid or unpaid work.

Short-stay business activity

Ireland does publish a short-stay business visa framework for defined business activity.

The official business-visa guidance allows activities such as meetings and contract negotiations and can permit work that starts and finishes within a single 14-day period, subject to the route conditions. It does not allow someone to work for 15 days or longer on that basis, or to repeat 14-day work periods within the same 90-day window.

For work outside those narrow conditions, the correct route may involve an employment permit, Atypical Working Scheme or another work permission.

Remote work is not a residence workaround

There is no general government rule saying that a person may relocate to Ireland as a visitor merely because the employer or clients are abroad.

Someone who intends to live in Ireland while working should evaluate the actual immigration basis: employment permit, STEP, eligible family permission, study/graduate permission or another specific status.

Stamp 0 is also not a workaround because its standard conditions prohibit work, business, trade or profession unless expressly allowed.

Company formation does not create immigration permission

Incorporating an Irish company, registering for tax or having Irish customers does not give an individual residence rights. Business/company law and immigration permission are separate.

Tax residence is separate again

Immigration permission does not decide tax residence, domicile, remittance-basis treatment or permanent-establishment questions. A person can face Irish tax consequences even where immigration permission is temporary, and vice versa.
