Project Visa in India

India's Project Visa is a specialised route for foreign nationals coming to execute qualifying projects in the power and steel sectors.

Narrow sector scope

The Ministry of Home Affairs guidance limits this route to power and steel projects. It is project-specific: the holder cannot simply move to a different project of the same or another company under the same visa.

Skilled-worker requirement

The official rules state that the Project Visa is for skilled or highly skilled persons, subject to narrow exceptions for a limited number of chefs and interpreters.

Duration

The initial validity is generally one year or the actual duration of the project/contract, whichever is less, with multiple entry. The rules provide a controlled extension framework.

This is not a general construction, engineering or contractor visa for every industry. Skilled foreign workers outside the qualifying power/steel framework should normally assess the Employment Visa.
