Curaçao immigration pathways in the January 2025 snapshot

Curaçao uses separate systems for admission/residence, local employment authorization, and business establishment. A company or establishment permit does not itself create residence rights, and residence permission does not automatically replace a work permit when the foreign-worker rules require one.

Digital nomads and remote workers

The Admission Office publishes a short-stay purpose specifically for remote workers/digital nomads. It applies when a foreign employer permits remote work in Curaçao for a stay of up to six months. It is not ordinary local-employment authorization.

Freelancers, self-employed people and founders

The official work guidance provides an own-company/sole-proprietorship residence pathway. It is the closest fit for many freelancers and founders who will actually operate locally, but business and immigration permissions remain separate. The reviewed January-2025 framework does not publish a separate startup-founder visa.

Investors

The Wealthy Investor 2014 policy is a distinct residence route for bona fide investors whose qualifying investment is of essential economic importance. It is an investor-residence program, not citizenship by investment.

Skilled and employed workers

A foreign worker employed by a locally based company generally needs an employer-obtained tewerkstellingsvergunning and a residence title. The employment-permit procedure includes a local-labor-market search requirement.
