Cambodia Remote Worker and Freelancer Options in 2026

Cambodia does not publish a dedicated digital-nomad visa in the current official visa material reviewed for this guide.

The official e‑Visa system lists Type E as the ordinary/business route, while the official CDC investing handbook describes the EB business extension as relevant to people working in Cambodia, people starting businesses and freelancers.

Practical immigration framework

For a remote worker or freelancer, the official framework to investigate is therefore:

  1. lawful entry, commonly using the ordinary Type E visa where appropriate;
  2. an EB business extension for a longer business/freelance stay;
  3. a foreign work permit/employment card where the activity amounts to work in Cambodia; and
  4. business/tax registration if the person establishes a Cambodian enterprise or taxable business activity.

Tourist visa is not a work route

The official Type T tourist visa is designed for tourism. ReloTide does not treat tourist status as permission to work.

Foreign clients do not automatically create an exemption

The Cambodian Labour Law is broad: it states that a foreigner cannot work without a work permit and employment card. The current official sources reviewed do not provide a general remote-work exception based solely on having a foreign employer or foreign clients.

That makes this different from countries with a specific nomad statute or foreign-employer exemption.

Freelancers

The CDC handbook expressly names freelancers under EB. That supports the immigration-extension fit, but it does not erase work-permit, tax or business-registration questions.

A freelancer creating a Cambodian company should also review business registration and investor setup.

Founders working remotely on an overseas startup

If the business remains entirely outside Cambodia, the official sources still do not create a dedicated founder/nomad exemption. If the founder establishes a Cambodian project, the QIP investor route may become relevant if the project qualifies.
