Barbados Welcome Stamp in 2026

The Barbados Welcome Stamp is a 12-month remote-work visa created under the Remote Employment Act, 2020. It lets a qualifying non-national live in Barbados while continuing work connected to income generated outside Barbados.

As of 17 September 2026, the programme is active. The Ministry of Tourism says Cabinet approved its renewal through 31 December 2026. That makes the route current today, but anyone targeting 2027 should confirm whether the programme is extended again.

Who qualifies?

The Remote Employment Act states that the route applies to a non-national employed in a country other than Barbados who has a valid passport, can show annual income of BDS $100,000 or more generated outside Barbados, and holds valid health insurance for the Stamp period.

The current online form expresses the financial declaration as US$50,000 or more expected over the next 12 months and/or sufficient means to support the applicant and accompanying family. Because the statutory wording and current administrative form are not identical, applicants near the threshold should rely on the live Immigration decision rather than assuming the “means” alternative automatically replaces the statutory income requirement.

What work can you do?

The current application contains a clear declaration: the applicant and included family members will not accept employment from or offer services to a Barbados citizen, permanent resident, immigrant, work-permit holder, or person/entity carrying on business in Barbados.

That makes the Welcome Stamp a foreign-income remote-work route, not a local freelancer visa. A person intending to serve Barbados clients or work for a Barbados employer should review Barbados work permits.

Documents

The current application portal requires electronic uploads including:

  • passport-size photograph;
  • passport biographical page; and
  • proof of relationship for dependants.

The form also collects employer/business details, permanent address, proposed entry date, criminal-offence declarations and family/dependant information. The 2021 statutory schedule includes birth/relationship documents and entry visa where applicable, so applicants should follow the live portal checklist shown for their application.

Fees

The current Welcome Stamp application page publishes the following non-refundable approval fees:

  • US$2,000 — individual;
  • US$3,000 — family bundle.

The 2021 amendment also introduced discounted renewal fees in Barbados dollars. Because the current portal displays renewal functionality while its public fee copy emphasizes the US$2,000/US$3,000 amounts, renewal applicants should use the amount shown in their live approval/payment instructions rather than relying on an old article.

Family

A spouse/partner and dependants can be included. The applicant must provide relationship evidence, and the income/means declaration explicitly addresses support for accompanying family. The same restriction on providing local employment/services applies to the family group included in the application.

Duration and renewal

The Stamp is for 12 months. The current form accepts both new applications and renewals, and the 2021 amendment created an express renewal mechanism. Renewal is not the same as permanent residence and should not be treated as an automatic pathway to settlement.

Tax treatment

Section 4 of the Remote Employment Act deems a Welcome Stamp holder not resident in Barbados for the purpose of section 85(5) of the Income Tax Act. Government launch material also described Welcome Stamp holders as not liable for Barbados income tax on the remote-work model.

Keep the scope precise: this is a programme-specific statutory rule, not a promise that every transaction, Barbados-source activity, company, property purchase or indirect tax is exempt. The Barbados Revenue Authority otherwise uses residence concepts including presence exceeding 182 days and ordinary residence. Obtain tax advice if your facts go beyond the intended foreign-income remote-work model.

Does it lead to permanent residence?

The Welcome Stamp itself is a temporary 12-month visa. The official programme material reviewed does not state that time on the Stamp automatically converts into Permanent Resident or Immigrant Status.
