CSME skilled-national movement and Right of Establishment
Saint Kitts and Nevis participates in the CARICOM Single Market and Economy. For qualifying CARICOM nationals, the CSME framework can replace the ordinary work-permit route and can also support business establishment.
Skilled-national categories
The Ministry of International Trade lists approved categories including university graduates, artistes, musicians, sports persons, artisans with a CVQ, nurses, teachers, media workers, holders of associate degrees or comparable qualifications, and household domestics with a CVQ or equivalent qualification.
Qualifying people can seek employment in another participating CSME state without a work permit after meeting the Skills Certificate requirements.
Entering Saint Kitts and Nevis
A CARICOM national entering Saint Kitts and Nevis may receive a six-month definite entry after satisfying immigration requirements. During that period, the person can apply for or verify a Skills Certificate with the Ministry of International Trade.
After successful verification, the passport is taken to the Ministry of National Security for an indefinite stay endorsement.
Right of Establishment
The same CSME framework recognizes the Right of Establishment, which facilitates business establishment without discriminatory restrictions. This is the most relevant official pathway for eligible CARICOM entrepreneurs and self-employed business owners.
A business right under CSME should still be distinguished from any sector-specific licence, tax registration or corporate compliance requirement.
Family
The Ministry states that Skills Certificate benefits can extend to the principal holder's spouse and dependants, including movement and access rights under the CSME framework.
