Egypt immigration pathways in the January 2025 snapshot

Egypt's Tier-1 framework separates employment authorization, investor residence, and citizenship by investment. The legal route depends on what the foreign national will actually do in Egypt.

Route map

Digital nomads and remote workers

The Tier-1 Egyptian sources reviewed for this January 2025 snapshot do not establish a dedicated open digital-nomad or remote-work visa. Visitor status should not be treated as employment or self-employment authorization.

Freelancers and self-employed professionals

The reviewed official framework does not establish a generic freelancer or open self-employment visa. A person actually establishing and investing in an Egyptian business may fit the Investor Residence framework if the statutory investor conditions are met; that is not an unrestricted freelance permit.

Entrepreneurs and startup founders

The reviewed Tier-1 sources do not establish a standalone startup-founder visa. A genuine founder who is a qualifying company founder, shareholder, partner or establishment owner may use the investor-residence framework. Foreign investment remains subject to sector-specific rules.

Investors

Investors should distinguish Investor Residence from the separate Citizenship by Investment program. Residence under the Investment Law does not automatically grant citizenship.

Skilled workers

Foreign skilled personnel generally use the employer-led Foreign Worker Permit and Employment Residence framework rather than a separate open skilled-worker visa.
