Cameroon remote worker and digital nomad options in 2026
Cameroon does not publish a dedicated digital-nomad visa in the official immigration framework reviewed for September 2026.
More importantly, the 2023 immigration decree states that, with the exception of the long-stay visa, no other visa gives entitlement to engage in profit-making or occupational activity or study in Cameroon.
Do not treat a tourist visa as a remote-work permit
The decree allows short-stay visas for tourists and businesspersons, but that is not the same as authorization to carry out occupational activity while physically in Cameroon.
The official framework reviewed does not publish a special exemption saying that foreign-employer remote work is permitted on tourist or short-stay status. ReloTide therefore does not advise digital nomads to rely on a tourist visa as work authorization.
What route may fit
A remote professional who will actually carry on independent professional activity from Cameroon may need to investigate the independent-worker route, including any required professional or commercial authorization and a long-stay visa.
A person employed by a Cameroon entity should use the foreign-employment route.
Business meetings are different
A foreign founder who merely visits for meetings may fall within the temporary businessperson/promoter framework. Operating the business or providing professional services is a different factual situation and can require long-stay/work/residence authorization.
There is also no official standalone "startup visa" found; founders should read entrepreneur/business residence.
