Bangladesh Student Visa (S Visa) in 2026
The S visa is the published student category for a regular student, admission-seeking student or researcher at a government-approved educational institution in Bangladesh. FS is the linked family category for eligible family members.
Core evidence
Current Los Angeles mission guidance lists an invitation/offer from the university, college or school; declaration/recommendation from the Bangladesh institution; an institutional letter attested by the Bangladesh Ministry of Education; bank-guarantee/financial evidence; passport/application material; and relationship evidence when family applies.
The competent mission can add local-jurisdiction documents or updated fee requirements, so use its live checklist before submitting.
Validity and extension
The Los Angeles page says an S visa may be issued for up to one year with multiple entries. It also describes extension through the Department of Immigration and Passports in Bangladesh up to the course tenure, with reference from the local institution and police-clearance requirements.
Because that validity statement is from one current mission page, do not assume every post will issue the same initial term.
Work is prohibited on S/FS
The same official guidance expressly says paid or unpaid employment is prohibited for S and FS holders. An internship, assistantship, freelance arrangement or remote-work plan should therefore be checked for the correct authorization rather than assumed permissible because it accompanies study.
Family
FS is the published family category connected to an S principal. Relationship evidence such as a marriage certificate or birth certificate may be required. See Bangladesh family/dependant visas.
Application sequence
- Obtain admission/official institutional support from a government-approved Bangladesh institution.
- Complete any Ministry of Education attestation required by the mission's checklist.
- Prepare financial evidence and family documents if applicable.
- Complete/print the online MRV application and submit through the competent mission.
- Before expiry, coordinate any course-tenure extension with the institution and DIP.
